Governor Committees

Committees and Nominated Members 2021/22

 

Pay Committee

This committee has a compliment of 3 members:

John Gillard, Mark Nuti and Lisa Jeffries.

 

The committee terms of reference and delegated responsibilities are as follows:

  • determine the appraisal period that applies to teachers (including head teachers);
  • make sure that the head teacher carries out their duties in respect of appraising other teachers;
  • Keep abreast of relevant developments and advise the Governing Body when the Pay Policy needs to be revised;
  • scrutinise the content of the school’s draft appraisal policy carefully to make sure that it will support effective appraisal in the school, challenging the head teacher as appropriate.;
  • scrutinise the provision that is made for the appraisal of teacher performance against the Teachers’ Standards;
  • scrutinise the arrangements being made for classroom observations;
  • scrutinise any arrangements for the head teacher to delegate the duty of managing the performance of teachers to others;
  • satisfy themselves that the appraisal policy is being implemented effectively and fairly in the school, challenging the head teacher on how objectives and assessments are quality assured and moderated;
  • satisfy themselves that appraisal evidence informs other decisions for example, on professional development and pay;
  • Ensure targets agreed are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-bound;
  • review and approve/decline the head teacher’s recommendations on pay for teachers;

 

The Pay Committee has fully delegated powers to:

  • Implement the Pay Policy with reference to staffing and financial budget plans. If the Committee feels it to be appropriate, any matter may be passed to the full Governing Body for ratification.
  • Achieve the aims of the Pay Policy in a fair and equitable manner within statutory and contractual obligations.
  •  Apply the criteria of the Pay Policy in determining the pay of each member of staff in the annual review.
  •  Recommend to governors the annual budget needed for the payment of staff.

 

Pay Appeals Committee

This committee will have a compliment of 3 members who are taken from the Full Governing Body as and when required with the exception of the members of the Pay Committee.

 

The committee terms of reference and delegated responsibilities are as follows:

  • To ensure that the Pay Committee follows the Staff Pay Policy as adopted by the full governing body.
  • To undertake training in order to understand the procedures to be followed.

 

Exclusions Committee

This committee will have a compliment of 3 members to be taken from the Full Governing Body with the exception of the Head Teacher, teacher and support staff governors.

 

The committee terms of reference and delegated responsibilities are as follows:

To consider the exclusion of a pupil by the Head Teacher.

To undertake training in order to understand the procedures to be followed.

To understand and to adhere to the DfE guidance to governors considering the exclusion of a pupil

 

Head Teacher's Appraisal Panel

This panel has a compliment of 3 members:

Mike Pope, John Gillard and Etty Isaac. 

 

Maintained schools are required to appoint an external advisor for the appraisal of the Head Teacher. The governing board is advised to use independent, professional support and advice (regardless of the type of school or context). The role of the external advisor is to provide advice and support on the legal process; interpretation of data and other performance information; and objective setting.

 

Finance Committee

This committee has a compliment of 4 governors:

Mike Pope, John Gillard, Victoria Hedges, Lisa Jeffries.

 

The committee terms of reference are as follows:

The committee will, with the assistance of the staff, review and report to the Full Board of Governors on the following aspects of the school’s activities for information and/or ratification as appropriate:The school’s

  • Statement of Financial Values (SFVS).
